Swimming alone in the world of technology

Swimming alone in the world of technology post takes a dip whether technology has affected our real time interactions or not. Most of us would agree that social media has taken a great toll in the real time interactions. Majority of us, use internet for  social media application like Whatsapp, email etc.. and  many don't have idea about the other usage of internet( Read also: Internet Users...Take a break from social media).
It has become common scenario now-a-days, that many members of the family are sitting together in the same room, but they are not talking to each other. Everyone is busy using Whatsapp, Facebook, watching YouTube and reading emails.
We need to remember the 70's and 80's when internet was non-existent, but there was an obsession for the printed media which includes magazines, Novels, Newspapers. You could have noticed there will complete silence at home during holidays and everyone would have a book in their hand and relishing in their own fantasy world. We could spot Lending libraries in every blocks of the residential area.  Even children were encouraged to read tinkle, Readers digest and so on.. It's no way different from the present day scenario of obsession for social media.
Millennium saw a surge of new technology which is named as satellite television. Visual media overtook and over shadowed the printed media. People were obsessed with mega serials, talk shows, live telecast and game shows.  I once read in Newspaper that a whole family was glued in front of the television watching mega serial, burglars used this opportunity to sneak in and looted the house without knowing. Real time conversation was really at hack.
Coming to the present era of internet and social media, unlike the previous era's of Printed media and visual media, Social media is dynamic and you get replies back in a moment, after an hour or atleast after a day. You are engaged in a conversation but not a face to face conversation. Social media or Technology has connected me to most of my school, college and childhood friends, with whom I once thought that it will be impossible to re-connect. With this new technology a guy living in NewYork can call up his son or daughter in Chennai and wish them "Happy birthday" that too in a video call.
It has increased business opportunity, many products were marketed and sold online. I know a lady who sells women's wear(Salwar Kameez) through her whatsapp contacts. She send pictures of the dresses, if  you like the dress you can pay to her account through net-banking and she will deliver the dress you selected to anywhere in Tamilnadu through courier for an minimal extra charge. Isn't it a great inspiration of how technology can be utilised in our favour.
In this speedy world texting and status updates has made the conversation so easy and effective way to express our feelings. It's a way to remain connected with your circle. Real time (face to face)conversation in no way could be surpassed by the technology nor there is an alternative for real time conversation in day today life. Still we find ways to meet our friends and relatives and have great time with them.
Don't send a text msg to your mom to get more dosa, who is in the kitchen and you are in the dinning..
If you are planning to meet your friend or relative do drop a text message so they will be prepared to meet and greet you.
Update your status " Happy birthday to me" when your bestie forgot to wish you on your birthday.
Don't post status " On a holiday trip with family.. see you chennai after 10days" you may find your home sweet home empty when you return back.
Hope I have confused the readers enough on this topic. Nevertheless, whether we use technology for conversation or real time conversation it need to be healthy and constructive.
Have a great year ahead "Advance Happy and prosperous Newyear 2017"
