Generation gap and Beyond

We meet many people in our day today life of different age group and it will not consume much of your intelligence and time to point out the difference of ideologies, way of thinking, different lifestyle and so on among different age groups, which is referred to as Generation gap. Generation gap is a terminology familiar to all of us and heard frequently but we don't have much idea about it and we usually get confused between era( New era starts with downfall of the previous era)and generation(New generation comes into existence when the current generation is flourishing)
Understanding Generation: When I was in school our Headmaster was giving a speech about the need for a new block in our school and mentioned the newest block was built a generation ago. Our school was operating for more than a century and you can easily see the building which were built over five generation and the architectural design tells the whole story. Out of curiosity to know more about generation I went to the block referred by our Head Master and learnt that the foundation stone was laid in mid 1970's. It didn't take long for me to  figure out the span of a generation, is approximately around 15 years and I later got clarified from our Headmaster that its 20 years.

Generation Span: Yes your doubt is justified and I can hear you mind asking "how did you decide the span of a generation to be 20years".Well there is no theories proving the span of generation but has a  logic behind the 20 years.. Average life of human being was considered to be 60years and there are three stages in life ( son/daughter, father/mother, Grandfather/Grandmother) which is 20 years average... Recently I read an article which says the average life has increased from 60 to 75years, now the generation span is 25 years. The logic remains the same "Average age of humans/3". Being 40yrs of age, I have already crossed two generations and I can really feel the difference in ideologies, lifestyle and so many other factors with the present younger generation.
Know your Generation: You will be interested in knowing which generation you belong to.. Social Engineers have constructed and named each generation considering different factors. With your year of birth you can know the generation you belong to...
1945- 1964 - Baby Boomers
1965- 1980 - Generation X
1981- 2000  - millennial, Gen next or Generation Y
2000- 2020 - Generation Z

Generation Gap: When Average age of human beings gets longer, living through different generations is a challenge. When age progress on, the learning, understanding and adaption graph declines, which leaves the older generation behind, while the younger generation progress on creating  a Generation gap. As an example If a well educated man or women from Generation X doesn't know how to operate a computer is trolled by Generation Y as computer illiterate. Generation Gap often results in strained relations at home and at work too.
Handling Generation Gap: There is no or little ways known to handle Generation gap. As the generation gap widens it become more difficult to handle. One of the best idea is to surround yourself with younger generation to keep your mind young and stay updated. But later or sooner it's appropriate and appreciated that the older generation shall handover the proceedings to younger generation and have a hassle free retirement life. Experience shall not be wasted also and shall be preserved and used with great care for guidance in complex situations by the younger generation.
